Scott & White Hospital – Round Rock was the first hospital in the United States to receive the Mission : Lifeline recognition, designating the facility as part of a system that makes sure STEMI patients get the right care, as quickly as possible, while focusing on improving the system of care for heart attack patients. STEMI (ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction) patients experience a complete blockage of blood flow to the heart that requires immediate treatment. To prevent death, it is critical to restore blood flow, either by surgically opening the blocked vessel or by giving clot-busting medication.
