- “Top Performer" on Key Quality Measures™” in heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care -
ROUND ROCK, Texas – Scott & White Hospital-Round Rock today was named one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures™ by The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission’s Top Performers program recognizes accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals demonstrating exemplary performance in using clinical processes that are shown to improve patient care for certain conditions.
Scott & White Hospital-Round Rock is one of 620 hospitals in the U.S. submitting accountability measure data to The Joint Commission to meet or exceed the target rates of performance in 2011.
"Our patients expect transparency in the reporting of performance at the hospitals where they receive care. The Joint Commission is shining a light on top-performing hospitals such as Scott & White Hospital – Round Rock for achieving excellence on a number of vital measures of high quality patient care," said Dr. Rob Watson, chief medical officer at Scott & White – Round Rock Region. "We know what matters most to our patients at Scott & White — safe, effective care. We are committed to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes. With sincere appreciation, I congratulate the providers and staff for this outstanding recognition."
"The Joint Commission recognition confirms our commitment to offering the highest quality care on a consistent basis," said Ernie Bovio, chief executive officer for Scott & White – Round Rock Region. "I’m very proud of our physicians and staff and their exceptional dedication and expertise that ensures our patients’ health and safety."
Scott & White Hospital-Round Rock met the following criteria for recognition of its achievement:
First, the hospital achieved performance of 95 percent or above on a single, composite score that includes all the accountability measures for which it reports data to The Joint Commission, including measures that had fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients;
Second, the hospital also met a 95 percent performance threshold for every accountability measure for which it reports data to The Joint Commission, excluding measures with fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients.
A 95 percent score means a hospital provided an evidence-based practice, such as giving antibiotics one hour before surgery, 95 times out of 100.
"When we raise the bar and provide the proper guidance and tools, hospitals have responded with excellent results," said Dr. Mark R. Chassin, FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president, The Joint Commission. "This capacity for continual improvement points toward a future in which quality and safety defects are dramatically reduced and high reliability is sought and achieved with regularity."
Scott & White Hospital-Round Rock’s recognition will be on The Joint Commission’s Quality Check website (www.qualitycheck.org.) and included in The Joint Commission annual report titled "Improving America’s Hospitals."
