Construction milestone reached for clinic building at McLane Children's

- Five-story specialty clinic center scheduled for opening February 2014 -

CENTRAL TEXAS –  McLane Children’s Hospital and Clinics physicians, staff and leadership, along with the construction crews, held a brief  "topping out" ceremony today on the lawn in front of the specialty clinic building project. Construction of the five-story building has reached its highest point with the frame of the fifth floor completed.

"This new specialty clinic building is the next step in the creation of this campus as a destination for health care for children," said Reddy Beeram, MD, physician-in-chief for McLane Children’s and chairman of pediatrics at Scott & White Healthcare. "It is thrilling to see the progress for such a great undertaking, and realize the positive impact it will have on the care we will be able to provide to children from across this region of Texas."

The 112,000 square-foot, $32 million facility will coordinate both outpatient and inpatient pediatric specialty services and providers in one convenient location, greatly expanding the opportunities for comprehensive, personalized and high-quality care for Central Texas children. Community support and philanthropy is playing a crucial role in the purchase of advanced medical equipment that will be used in the building.

When it opens in February 2014, the specialty clinic building will initially contain: the Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, the Pediatric Neurosciences Center, cardiology, pulmonology, general pediatric surgery, orthopaedic surgery, podiatric surgery, urologic surgery, plastic surgery, gastroenterology, endocrinology, nephrology, ENT/audiology and speech, general pediatrics and adolescent medicine, and infectious disease.

The clinic building will office more than 80 highly specialized physicians and providers, residents and fellows, and approximately 200 support staff. The building will have 135 exam rooms, 13 treatment rooms and eight infusion rooms. It will feature a drive-through outpatient pharmacy, diagnostic X-ray and laboratory services.
