Pricing: Cost Containment

SWPS offers a host of clinical cost containment tools to all clients.SWPS believes that the best method of managing waste is through the maintenance benefit. We strongly believe that this provides the most appropriate use of medications, as well as a strong cost containment tool for both patients and the plan.

SWPS provides a specific list for drugs considered maintenance-eligible. These drugs are listed with an “M” beside the name of the drug on the preferred drug list. Only these medications can be dispensed for the extended quantity and only through the mail order or through pharmacies that contract with our preferred pharmacy network at reduced rates.

All other medications are limited to a 34-days supply at retail outlets. This is an option that can be either adopted or declined by each client, however we believe that our clinical management strategies have demonstrated and can provide significant cost containment without sacrificing member satisfaction.
