End of the Year Banquet

The General Surgery Resident Graduation Banquet, also known as the Department of Surgery End of Year Banquet, was held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Santa Fe Depot.

Our four graduating residents were:

• David Alexander, M.D.
• Staci Hix-Hernandez, M.D.
• J. Georgia Holder-Haynes, M.D.
• Christian Latham, M.D.

Jim Tidwell, M.D. completed his three years in general surgery and moved on to complete his plastic surgery residency.

The following awards were given:

• John W. Roberts Surgical Scholar Award for Excellence in Academic Pursuit, to J. Leigh Eidson, M.D.
• John McKenney Award for Chief Resident as Role Model, to Staci Hix-Hernandez, M.D.
• Donald R. Cooney Resident Award for Excellence in Trauma Surgery, to David W. Alexander, M.D.
• Charles W. Borders Resident Award for Excellence in Student Teaching, to James L. Bordelon, M.D.
• Best Clinical Resident Award for Excellence in Clinical Activity, to Christian A. Latham, M.D.
• Arthur C. Scott Resident Research Award for Excellence in Research, to Staci Hix-Hernandez, M.D.
• Randall W. Smith Faculty Award for Role Model and Mentor to the chief residents, to Mohsen Shabahang, M.D., Ph.D.
• G.V. Brindley Faculty Educator Award for Excellence in Resident Teaching, to Randall W. Smith, M.D.
