Drug Information Rotation
Preceptor: Barry Browne, Pharm.D.
Objectives

Upon successful conclusion of the drug information rotation, residents will be able to:
- Appropriately assess inquiries to Scott & White Drug Information Service (i.e., nature and difficulty of the question, time frame for response, need for verbal or written response, etc.).
- Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals - both verbally and in writing - regarding drug information questions and responses.
- Utilize the various standard drug information references and resources and be able to use those information sources to provide appropriate verbal and written drug information responses.
- Understand and participate in the process/procedures involved in planning, writing and editing a Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee Newsletter, a Drug Utilization Evaluation (DUE) project, adverse drug reaction reporting and a P&T Committee therapeutic class review.
Rotation and Service Requirements
- Completion of five to six half-day (0730 - 1200 or 1200 - 1700) scheduled "on-call" periods each week of the rotation
- Completion of a Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee therapeutics class review of drug monograph and verbal presentation of the data at a P&T committee meeting
- Completion of additional brief written responses to drug information questions as requested
- Attendance at Clinical Pharmacy Journal Club meeting (weekly) and Pharmacy Rounds (weekly) scheduled during the rotation period
- Evaluation/assessment of patient adverse drug reactions as requested.
- Participation in a Scott & White medication utilization evaluation (MUE) project as requested.
