Adult Medicine Rotation
Preceptor: Paul Godley, Pharm.D. and Patient Care Pharmacists

More than 500 medical/surgical beds are licensed for Scott & White Memorial Hospital, the institution’s acute care facility.
The Internal Medicine program consists of four medicine teams; each team includes a medical staff, attending physician, medical/surgical residents, Texas A&M College of Medicine students, pharmacy residents and University of Texas College of Pharmacy Doctor of Pharmacy students.
The medical/surgical floors are covered by six clinical patient care pharmacists; the patient care pharmacists are present on the units from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Medication distribution is managed from the central pharmacy.
Residents on rotation on the internal medicine service will gain exposure to the following subspecialty areas:
- Cardiology
- Dermatology
- Endocrinology
- Gastroenterology
- Hematology
- Infectious Disease
- Nephrology
- Neurology
- Nutrition support
- Psychiatry
- Pulmonology
- Rheumatology
- Urology

Resident responsibilities while participating in the internal medicine rotation:
- Participation in daily rounds with assigned medicine team
- Daily attendance at medicine morning report
- Daily review of pharmaceutical care plan on all patients on the service
- Provision of pharmacokinetic consults and antibiotic streamlining as necessary
- Provision of drug information to the medical team as necessary
- Report adverse drug events/reactions according to hospital policy
- Daily attendance at medicine noon conference
- Mentor doctor of pharmacy students on the internal medicine rotation
