Welcome to the Scott & White Pediatric Residency Program! I hope the information at this site will provide you with a good introduction to our program and who we are.

Our training program is conveniently located in the middle of Central Texas and is affiliated with Texas A&M University’s medical school. Scott & White’s overall vision is reflected by our mission statement which is to "provide the most personalized, comprehensive, and highest quality health care, enhanced by medical education and research". Our goal and mission in the department of pediatrics and within the residency program reflects that ideal and purpose. We are a residency program that offers an excellent, comprehensive, "hands on" experience for our pediatric residents with a close, personalized feel.

During our three-year program, the primary focus is to train our residents to be exceptional pediatricians. For those interested in an academic career or subspecialty training, approximately 25% of our residents continue on to high quality, competitive fellowship programs. We have had excellent success in helping pave the way for our graduated physicians as they pursue and excel in their chosen fields.

We have a committed, enthusiastic group of teaching faculty who are the backbone of our residency program. Our residents have the opportunity to experience and treat a wide and vast array of clinical conditions and challenging pathology. They are able to balance busy high quality clinics and meet the educational expectations of our department. Additionally, the educational opportunities include comprehensive conferences, grand rounds, small group discussions and simulation experiences all moderated by our committed teaching faculty.

Finally, we expect our residents to play an active role in continually reviewing and improving their own education. Through participation in key committees, input at housestaff meetings, resident retreat discussions, or informal conversations with the chief residents or myself, resident feedback and participation are essential continually strive to improve our program.

Successfully completing a pediatric residency takes significant motivation and persistence, but ultimately is a rewarding experience. We hope that you learn the personality of our program and determine if it fits your long term goals. I invite you to learn as much about jour program through our website and in person. Good luck and look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to the Scott & White Pediatric Residency program where education, research and clinical experience are our valued assets. Our dedicated staff members are among the best in their areas of specialty and their teaching abilities are excellent. And you will find that our mission statement directs our practice.

Our unified mission is “to provide the most personalized, comprehensive, and highest quality health care, enhanced by medical education and research.” This is reflected in our attitudes, our goals and clinical skills as we devote ourselves to promoting health and treating the pediatric population entrusted to our care.

The department’s goal is to provide the skills, knowledge and experiences that will prepare our residents to meet the challenges of evolving health care needs in their chosen field of practice. We have a broad subspecialty, including surgical services with high outpatient and inpatient volumes with a variety of interesting cases. In addition, we also offer opportunities to participate in high quality research. We stress mentorship programs to provide strength and direction and also provide one-on-one teaching and learning opportunities.

Located in Central Texas, Temple’s location gives the best of both worlds. This small town, with short commutes to home or work reduces the hassle of traffic and time spent driving. The people are friendly and it is a safe place to raise a family. There are good educational resources, cultural activities, lakes with boating, fishing and recreational fun. Yet, it is surrounded by large cities that offer entertainment in close proximity. Austin is less than an hour away while San Antonio, Dallas and Houston are approximately two hours away.

We have a lot to offer and an open invitation is extended to you to call or visit our website for added information. We have a history of a great programs preparing the most efficient, dedicated, and compassionate physicians for the future. We welcome you!
