For Standardized Patients (SPs)
The Standardized Patient Program at Scott & White is recruiting people to act as standardized patients (SPs) for healthcare learning activities.
An SP is trained on a fictious patient case which includes information such as: patient name, age, family background, medical background and responses to possible questions.
The SP will use body language, emotions, personality and physical findings to make it appears they are an actual patient. During an activity the SP will portray the same case several times so accuracy and consistency in role play and answers is a must.
A standardized patient also provides feedback to the learner though the use of checklists and verbal communication so a good memory and professionalism are required.
No prior medical knowledge, training or acting experience is necessary. The SP Program will provide paid case training prior to the activity.
Interested individuals should have a flexible schedule, reliable transportation, good memory, ability to give and receive feedback and enjoy working with people.

About Standardized Patients
Participation as a standardized patient is voluntary and you may withdraw at any time. By agreeing to participate as a standardized patient, you are agreeing to be interviewed and/or examined by one or several learners (students, resident physicians, physicians, nurses and/or allied health professionals) for the purpose of allowing the learners to improve their clinical and interpersonal skills. Authorized individuals, as specified by the activity director and/or the SP Program staff, may observe activities involving SP encounters.
Individuals examining you may be students and not qualified to provide any medical opinion regarding your physical condition. Participation in the program is not a substitute for seeing your personal physician regarding your health or any specific physical ailment.
The benefits to you for your participation are that you will receive a pre-determined compensation for your work and that you will be supporting the educational goals of the academic health science center and SP Program to improve community healthcare, patient safety and quality of care.
