The Center for Rehabilitation provides 24-hour care, seven days a week. Hospital consultation and coverage are provided by rotating senior staff.

Inpatient Rehabilitation

Services Provided:

Inpatient services are provided for individuals from the age of 12 years and older.

The following represent conditions that are within the scope of service:

  • Strokes
  • Spinal cord Injuries
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Amputations
  • Post-acute care for knee and hip replacements
  • Post-acute care for spinal surgeries
  • Post-acute care for multiple fractures that require surgical fixation
  • Peripheral neuropathies
  • Myopathies
  • Intracranial hemorrhage
  • Post-Acute care from neurologic tumor resection
  • Other neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, primary cerebellar degeneration, etc.

inpatient rehab staff The inpatient rehabilitation center functions as an interdisciplinary team that includes nurses, physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, recreation therapist, rehabilitation psychologist, social worker, nurse case manager, pharmacists, dietician and chaplain.

The team endeavors to provide quality, cost effective rehabilitation services and care designed to meet the needs of the patients served.

The goal is to help each patient maximize his or her level of independence and return the patient to their pre-hospital living situation or home environment.

Current Discharge to community outcomes for inpatient rehabilitation for the following diagnoses:

Stroke 74.2%
Hip fracture 91.4%
Lower Extremity joint replacement 94.3%
Major Medical Trauma/Non Brain/Spinal cord injury 100%
Lower extremity amputation 100%
Pain, Traumatic spinal cord injury, Cardiac, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Pulmonary diagnosis 100%

Comprehensive Medical Rehabilitation Patients’ Rights

While you are a patient at Scott & White, your rights include the following:

  1. You have the right to considerate and respectful care to include meeting your physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs.
  2. You have the right to be well informed about your illness, possible treatments and likely outcome and to discuss this information with your doctor. You have the right to know the names and roles of people treating you.
  3. You have the right to consent to or refuse a treatment, as permitted by law, throughout your continuum of care. If you refuse a recommended treatment, you will receive other needed and available care.
  4. You have the right to have an Advance Directive, such as a living will or healthcare power of attorney. These documents express your choices about your future care or name someone to decide If you cannot speak for yourself. If you have a written Advance Directive, you should provide a copy to the Hospital, your family and your doctor.
  5. You have the right to security and privacy. Your doctor and other caring for you will provide you with security and personal privacy as much as possible.
  6. You have the right to express your spiritual beliefs and cultural practices as long as these do not harm others or interfere with treatment.
  7. You have the right to expect that medical records information is kept confidential unless you have given permission to release information, or reporting is required or permitted by law. When Scott & White released records to others, such as insurers, it emphasized that the records are confidential.
  8. You have the right to review the records pertaining to your medical care and to have the information explained or interpreted as necessary, except when restricted by law.
  9. You have the right to expect that Scott & White will provide you with necessary health services to the best of its ability. Treatment, referral or transfer may be recommended. If transfer is recommended or requested, you will be informed of risks, benefits and alternatives. You will not be transferred until the other institution agrees to accept you.
  10. You have the right to know if Scott & White has agreements with outside parties that may influence your treatment and care. These agreements may be with educational institutions, other health care providers or insurers.
  11. You have the right to consent or decline to take part in research affecting your care. If you choose not to take part, you will receive the most effective care the facility otherwise provides.
  12. You have the right to be told of realistic care alternatives.
  13. You have the right to the appropriate assessment and management of pain.
  14. You have the right to know about facility rules that affect you and your treatment and about charges and payment methods. You have the right to know about facility resources, such as Patient Relations, which can help you resolve problems and questions about your care.
  15. You have the right to participate in ethical decisions regarding your care. You may access the Scott & White Ethics Committee by contacting our Chaplain Services.
  16. A minor is entitled to:
    1. appropriate treatment in the least restrictive setting available;
    2. not receive unnecessary or excessive medication;
    3. an individualized treatment plan and to participate in the development of the plan;
    4. a humane treatment environment that provides reasonable protection from harm and appropriate privacy for personal needs;
    5. separation from adult patient; and
    6. regular communication between the minor patient and the patient’s family.
