Outpatient Rehabilitation

Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation Clinic

The physical medicine and rehabilitation service meets the needs of the community, physicians from outside the Scott & White system and all of the departments at Scott & White. The service is dedicated to providing timely effective consultation and recommendations to the patient and referring physicians.

Conditions managed by the department include:

1. Musculoskeletal conditions:
   1. Acute low back, midback, hip, knee, ankle, neck, shoulder, elbow and wrist pain
   2. Industrial injuries
   3. Overuse injuries
   4. Non-surgical athletic injuries
   5. Myofascial pain syndromes
   6. Other sprains/strains/bursitis
2. Peripheral neurologic disorders:
   1. Peripheral nerve compressions, i.e.: carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy, peroneal neuropathy, etc.
   2. Lumbar and cervical radiculopathy
   3. Symptomatic management of spinal stenosis
   4. Peripheral neuropathy
   5. Utilizing EMG and nerve conduction studies to evaluate the peripheral nervous system
3. Inpatient rehabilitation and follow up care for patients with stroke, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, amputations, post-op hip and knee surgery patients, compression and other spinal fractures, neuromusculoskeletal disorders (Guillain-Barre, post-polio, etc.), spasticity, gait unsteadiness/frequent falls
4. Prosthetic and other amputee evaluations and treatments
5. Evaluations for orthotics and other bracing for muscle weakness and spasticity
6. Evaluations for motorized scooters, power wheel chairs and other mobility devices
7. Lymphedema assessment and management
