Anita Perry and Robert Probe, M.D. elected to Scott & White board

TEMPLE, Texas – First Lady Anita Perry and Dr. Robert Probe were elected as trustees for the Scott & White Healthcare system’s governing board.

Mrs. Perry and Dr. Probe were elected to the foundation board during the February meeting. Mrs. Perry, a professional nurse for 17 years, has continued to be an advocate for healthcare issues. Dr. Probe is the chairman of Scott & White’s orthopedic surgery department.

“We are delighted to have Anita Perry and Dr. Robert Probe join our board,” said Drayton McLane Jr., chairman of the Scott & White board of trustees. “Scott & White has grown substantially over the last five years bringing enhanced and more specialized services to a broader geographic area of Central Texas. Mrs. Perry’s knowledge, interest and commitment to healthcare is a tremendous asset and Dr. Probe’s specialized expertise and compassionate care will help us continue to be successful.

”Mrs. Perry earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from West Texas State University, now West Texas A&M University , followed by a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. She has been honored by West Texas A&M with the establishment of the Anita Thigpen Perry Nursing Excellence Scholarship endowment, which provides financial support to students in the School of Nursing. The Anita Thigpen Perry Endowment at the U.T.S.A. Health Science Center supports the Center for Community Based Health Promotion in Women and Children.

Last year, Mrs. Perry was honored by Texas Tech University when it renamed its nursing school as The Anita Thigpen Perry School of Nursing.

Dr. Probe is a specialist in orthopedic trauma, and foot and ankle reconstructive surgery. In addition to serving as the chairman of the Department of Orthopedics, he is director of the Division of Orthopedic Trauma. Orthopedic trauma surgery is one of the key surgical specialties contributing to Scott & White’s designation as the only Level I trauma center between Dallas and San Antonio.

Dr. Probe joined the Scott & White senior medical staff in 1990. He earned his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University, and then went on to earn his medical degree from the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, followed by fellowship training in Dallas, Houston, Switzerland and Italy. Dr. Probe is currently an associate professor of surgery, and is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He received the 2005 Howard Rosen AONA Educator Award, and serves nationally on the Orthopedic Trauma Association board of trustees.
