Round Rock Area Serving Center and Scott & White Healthcare – Round Rock keep kids warm this winter

ROUND ROCK, TX - School children in Round Rock who need a coat this winter won’t be left out in the cold thanks to a $10,000 donation to the Coats For Kids program from Scott & White Healthcare – Round Rock.

"This is the first year we've had a sponsor like Scott & White-Round Rock, and their support will allow us to get significantly more coats this year,” says Cynthia Flores, coordinator of the Coats for Kids program at the Round Rock Serving Center. The non-profit social services agency helps local residents in need.

Some 11,000 children in the Round Rock Independent School District qualify for a coat, based on their participation in the district’s free and reduced-price lunch program. Last year, the project distributed 4,000 coats to local children.

“We hope that our participation will increase that number substantially so that every child who needs a coat this winter will get one,” says Ernie Bovio, CEO of Scott & White - Round Rock.

In addition to its cash donation, Scott & White has set up collection bins at its Round Rock regional clinics and hospital for anyone to drop off gently used or new coats, or cash donations for the purchase of coats. Drop-off sites are at the following Scott & White Healthcare locations:

Coats will be distributed at the Dell Diamond on November 7, 2009 to children registered for the free and reduced lunch program in the Round Rock Independent school district, and who have received a voucher to pick up a coat from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Coats can also be dropped off at the Round Rock Area Serving Center at 1099 E. Main St., Round Rock, Mon.-Sat., 9:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. Adult volunteers are needed to help with coat distribution.
