Scott & White to break ground for clinic in Cameron

CAMERON, TEXAS – Scott & White is building a 12,500-square-foot clinic and 2,500-square-foot pharmacy in Cameron at the corner of Texas Highway 36 and Lafferty Avenue. Construction is scheduled to begin Oct. 5 with a projected opening date for the clinic in July 2010.

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. Sept. 17 at the construction site. The event is open to the public.

The clinic will feature 15 exam rooms, two treatment rooms, a 1,000-square-foot lobby and a covered drop-off area at the entrance. This new clinic is designed with convenience features; patient-friendly access for check-in, and on-site x-ray and laboratory services all located at the front of the clinic. It also has check-out lobbies at each exit that feature seating so patients can relax as they sit face-to-face with a check-out attendant to schedule future appointments.

Dr. Mike Locklear, a family medicine physician who is currently practicing in Cameron, will lead the medical and support staff of about 13. The clinic is being constructed to allow for future expansion, accommodating up to five providers. Visiting specialists will have space to see patients in the clinic.

The pharmacy will offer a full line of prescription services and an extensive over-the-counter department, as well as a drive-through window. In addition to providing medication reviews for patients, the pharmacy will feature specialized monitoring and educational services for patients with diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, asthma and other pulmonary diseases.

Like other Scott & White pharmacies, the Cameron clinic pharmacy will feature an electronic system to communicate with physicians for refills and new prescriptions, a Web refill site and the Telefill interactive voice response system that allows patients to leave refill requests via the automated phone system 24 hours a day by phone key entry. Warren Rinn will be the pharmacist and manager of the new pharmacy.
