Scott & White Auxiliary pledges $1 million
- Children’s Hospital and Surgical Sciences Building to benefit -

TEMPLE, Texas – The Scott & White Auxiliary has pledged $1 million, with half earmarked for the planned Surgical Sciences Building project, and $500,000 to benefit the Children's Hospital for the purchase of special equipment.“

The dedication and leadership of the Scott & White Auxiliary will help us give young patients at Scott & White access to some of the newest medical technology available, and give a boost to the Surgical Sciences Building project,” said Scott & White Chief Development Officer Nancy Birdwell. “This is a bold and ambitious pledge, but the history of giving that the Auxiliary has established over the years makes this a special and exciting announcement.”

The Auxiliary provides volunteers for Scott & White Memorial Hospital and raises funds through the hospital’s Sunshine Gift Shop. The organization has more than 100 active members. Last year, the Auxiliary raised more than $220,000 for programs, including SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner), Worth the Wait, Children's Miracle Network, the Scott & White Bone Marrow Program, and scholarships to area students starting medical careers. The Auxiliary also provides volunteers to the Santa Fe Center in Temple and Scott & White University Medical Campus in Round Rock.

“We feel a great sense of pride and ownership in the work that goes on at Scott & White,” said Auxiliary President Vanny Bolsins. “Scott & White has touched each of our lives, either directly or through our families or friends. To be able to give and help this great institution build for the future is a special privilege for the Auxiliary.”

Of the pledged funds, $500,000 will support the Children’s Hospital’s purchase of special pediatric infusion “smart pumps,” pumps that are engineered for the tiny circulatory systems of infants and children. The other half is to be given for the construction of the new Surgical Sciences Building. This past June, Scott & White announced plans to construct as many as 36 state-of-the-art operating suites in a new, four-story building, to help meet the growing demand for advanced surgical technologies.
