Joining the Registry

Joining the registry is as simple 3 easy steps!

Make sure you are eligible.

A volunteer must be willing to donate to any patient, between the ages of 18 and 60 and be in good general health. Please review the questions on this link to make sure you are eligible to join the registry. If you have any questions concerning your eligibility, contact our donor center by phone at 254-724-2811 for clarification.

Complete the registration form

A registration form is available at all drives, at the Scott & White Regional Clinic Laboratories, or can be mailed to you from our donor center. The registration form can also be downloaded from the NMDP website.

Give a swab of cheek cells

The testing needed to register you for the NMDP is a sample of the cells from the inside of your cheek (called a buccal swab). This swab kit can be obtained at any of our drives, at our regional clinic laboratories, or from our main office. It can also be mailed to you (please call our office at 254-724-2811). The instruction to perform the buccal swab can be downloaded from this link.

Where can I go to become registered

Individuals may register several ways:

• Registration Drives - A volunteer may attend a drive held by the Scott & White Marrow Donor Program. For a list of the drives in your area, call our recruitment office at 254-724-0602, or toll-free at 888-724-2811.
• Online - A volunteer may go to http://www.marrow.org and click the "join" button. They will then be instructed on how to complete the registration form online. When the electronic consent form is received by the National Marrow Donor Program, a buccal swab kit will be mailed to the volunteer to complete. For those registering in the central Texas area, this testing will be done a no charge by entering the code SAVE1LIFE when prompted for a promo code.
• Scott & White Marrow Program Home Office - A volunteer may always go by the Marrow Donor Program office at the main Scott & White facility in Temple to register with the NMDP. The office is located on the first floor of the clinic in the Vasicek Cancer Treatment Center. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.– 4 p.m. Please call first to set up an appointment by calling 254-724-2811, or toll-free at 888-724-2811.
• Any Scott & White Regional Clinic - A volunteer may go by any Scott & White Regional Clinic to register with the NMDP. They should go directly to the laboratory and tell the technologist they wish to be placed on the National Marrow Donor Program Registry. The laboratory personnel will give the volunteer a consent form to fill out and a buccal swab kit. The completed consent and swab kit can then be mailed to the Scott & White Marrow Donor Program office in Temple.
• By Mail - if a volunteer wishes to register by mail, please call our office for instructions on how to recieve the registration packet.

What else do I need to know?

There are other very important factors you need to know!

1. You will remain on the registry until your 61st birthday, or until you contact us to tell us to remove you from the registry.
2. When you are on the registry, you will be available for any patient in need worldwide.
3. If your health changes after registering, please contact our office as soon as possible. You may, or may not continue to be eligible to be a potential donor.
4. It is Critically Important to keep your address current at all times. A patient's life may depend on us being able to find you quickly!
