Blood Center offering breakfast to increase donations

TEMPLE, Texas - Breakfast is served Friday morning for donors at the Scott & White Blood Center.

From 6 - 9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 7, blood donors will be served a free waffle breakfast as a reward for giving that morning.

Blood donations collected will be used for patients in the Central Texas area.

“There was a nationwide blood shortage this summer,” said Scott & White Blood Donor Recruiter Melissa Ainslie. “Blood must be donated to be available to patients even before they need it. We are extending our hours to make donating more convenient to ensure our blood supply remains strong during the holidays for the community. ”

All donors will be treated to fresh, homemade waffles with all the fixings in the Blood Center after their donation. Donors will also receive a free "BLOOD DONORS ARE HEROS" t-shirt, a free star-shaped squeezie, a coupon from CiCi's Pizza, and the chance to win a $200 American Express gift card donated by the Scott & White Credit Union.

To give blood, donors must be 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and have photo identification. All the blood collected will be used for community patients.

The Blood Center is located on the main floor of the hospital at 2401 S. 31st Street in Temple.
