Our certified diabetes educators have completed a minimum of 1,000 hours of diabetes teaching, have received 75 hours of continuing education and have passed the national exam by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.

Dr. Piziak is Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, Director of the Division of Endocrinology at Scott & White, and principal physician for the Diabetes Education Center. She is well known throughout the world in her primary care work on Diabetes, Lipid disorders and Osteoporosis. Read more »

"I love patients. I love teaching. It's always rewarding to see how well patients with diabetes can do with the right information."

Lynn brings over 25 years of certified diabetes experience to the Diabetes Education Center, working with pediatrics, adult care, dialysis, hospital and clinic patients. She co-developed the first Diabetes Education Program at Scott & White in 1989, one of the first nationally certified programs in the State of Texas. And she knows how important it is for patients to make, and sustain, life changes to manage their condition.


Barbara Buckles, R.N. - Diabetes Educator

"I enjoy teaching patients how to manage their diabetes, and seeing the difference it can make in their health in both the short and long terms."

Barbara received her B.S. in nursing from Lutheran Medical School of Nursing in St. Louis, MI, and has been a Scott & White Diabetes Educator for over 25 years. She has educated thousands of patients about their health and the importance of disease prevention through behavior changes. At the Diabetes Education Center, Barbara teaches people about diabetes, conducts diagnostics tests as a member of the Endocrinology team, works with patients with insulin pumps and helps run the Diabetes Support group started in 2008.


Shabeth Stump, R.N.

"Balance and moderation are the keys to healthy eating. Eat balanced meals containing all the food groups and reduce your portion size!"

Shabeth received her B.S. in nursing from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, TX and has been a Scott & White Diabetes Educator for several years. She focuses her schedule around diabetes education in the Endocrinology Clinic.

Asma Ghani

Asma Ghani, M.P.A.S., P.A.-C.

Asma is a Physician Assistant in Endocrinology and joined Scott & White in July 2008. She graduated from UNTHSC, TCOM - Fort Worth, TX in May 2008 and is nationally certified from NCCPA. She has a bachelor's degree from UT in Austin in Microbiology and one-year post-bachlorate training in Clinical Laboratory Science from Scott & White. She has a patient care emphasis in diabetes, osteoporosis, thyroid and lipid disorders.
