International Leaders in Women's Health

The Women's Health Center at Scott & White, Temple Texas

Partly because of Scott & White's affiliation with The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, Bob L. Shull, M.D., and his team members are heavily involved in research to find new surgical techniques and treatments that can increase the effectiveness of their pelvic medicine procedures. They are able to stay on top of innovations in the field, and they regularly share that information with other medical professionals dealing with women's health issues.

Twice a year, Dr. Shull holds a conference in Salado at which healthcare providers from around the world gather to learn about the latest developments in their field and to discuss what works and what does not. Dr. Shull has had visitors from Norway, Sweden, Australia, Italy, England, Singapore and many other areas—all interested in the work being done at Scott & White.

"I know about the work Dr. Shull does, and I wanted to learn more about how we can do some of the same things for our patients," said Arabella Biaggi, M.D., an obstetrician/gynecologist from Italy. Dr. Biaggi is studying with Dr. Shull for one year to do research and gain clinical experience.

But despite his international reputation, Dr. Shull remains focused on one goal—improving the lives of women. "The women who come to see us are looking for answers and solutions, and we do the best we can to help them," Dr. Shull said. "We take the time to talk with them and listen to them, then tell them their options, which are not always what they want to hear. We want them to know they can come here and get all the help they need in one location, and we will do whatever we can to improve their quality of life and make their future a little brighter."

For Dottie Craig of Midland, Texas, that is exactly what happened. Since having surgery at Scott & White in 2004, she has had no further problems with prolapse and incontinence, and she is glad she made the choice to come to Scott & White for treatment.

"I think Dr. Shull and his team just did a wonderful job," she said. "This has really improved the quality of my life, and removed an annoying problem. It has been a marvelous thing for me."

Mrs. Craig was so pleased with the results, she and her husband wanted to help support the program. Their donations to Dr. Shull's program will help him and his team continue their efforts.
