Cardiothoracic Surgery

Cardiothoracic SurgeryThe Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery provides diagnosis, treatment and surgical procedures for patients with acquired and congenital diseases of the heart, lungs, esophagus, diaphragm and great vessels. Services are provided without regard to race, creed, sex, religion, personal beliefs or lifestyle. Patients who are accepted by the division range in age from adolescent to geriatric. Minimally invasive procedures are provided in the operating room, clinic examination offices and minor treatment rooms. Major procedures are provided in the operating room.

Some of the services offered by the division include:

  • managing advanced coronary artery disease
  • managing acute myocardial ischemia
  • coronary artery bypass surgery
  • repair or replacement of heart valves
  • repair or replacement of the thoracic aorta
  • lung surgery as a result of tumor or infection
  • volume reduction surgery for emphysema
  • minimally-invasive pulmonary surgery
  • minimally-invasive coronary bypass
  • minimally-invasive valve replacement
  • cutting-edge laser off-pump coronary revascularization
  • myotomies
  • antireflux procedures
  • reconstructive or replacement esophagogastrectomies
  • esophageal bypass procedures.

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery schedules patients through the Scott & White central appointments system. The division does not accept walk-in or self-referred patients. Walk-in or self-referred patients are referred to their personal care physician for initial evaluation
