Clinical Investigators

A clinical investigator is a medical researcher in charge of carrying out a clinical trial's protocol and is personally responsible for ensuring all legal, medical and ethical aspects of the described investigation as well as protecting the rights, safety and welfare of subjects under their care. The clinical investigator must be a medical practitioner (e.g., M.D., Ph.D., R.N., D.D.S., pharmacists, etc) who is qualified to conduct the study.  The clinical investigator is responsible for individuals assisting them in designate sub-investigators (members of the research team, including other physicians, research fellows, residents, coordinators, statisticians, research pharmacists, etc, who assist them in conducting the investigation).

General Responsibilities of Investigators

• Ensuring that an investigation is conducted according to government regulations, and the investigational plan (protocol)
• Protecting the rights, safety and welfare of subjects under clinical investigator’s care 
• Controlling drug/device under investigation
• Obtaining the informed consent of each human subject to whom the drug (investigational product) is administered
