Plastic Surgery Residency Program
Scott & White offers a combined six-year Plastic Surgery Residency training program. Applicants are interviewed while still in medical school. If accepted for residency the applicant will begin their training at the PGY-1 level. The first three years are in the Department of General Surgery where the resident is then responsible to follow the rules and regulations as outlined under General Surgery Residency Review Committee. After completing the General Surgery training program, they will then enter the core Plastic Surgery training at the PGY-4 level.
During the first three years, the residents complete a number of rotations through surgical subspecialties as are requested by the Plastic Surgery program director with the cooperation of the General Surgery program director. This includes two-months of Plastic Surgery during each of the first three years. Residents therefore spend a total of three and a half years in Plastic Surgery during their six-year residency training.
During the three year core of Plastic Surgery Residency, the residents will perform a broad spectrum of surgeries including reconstructive surgery, aesthetic surgery, microsurgery, burn surgery and craniofacial surgery. The residents work in only two hospitals and the ratio of staff to residents is greater than 2:1. The program is fully accredited for five years. The next site review will be held in 2007.
