A word from the program director

The Children's Hospital at Scott & White and the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine offers a three-year residency for physicians who plan to devote their professional lives to the care of infants, children and adolescents. Our approach to child healthcare emphasizes comprehensive, personalized care with a strong appreciation of the humanistic and developmental aspects of pediatrics. The program provides each resident with high quality primary care training. The residents are given the opportunity to participate in clinical research and in medical student education. The program emphasizes progressive assumption of responsibility with supervision by board certified general pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists who are busy clinicians in the third largest private clinic in the United States. Residents benefit from the close relationship of the hospital, clinic, health plan and medical school.

Upon completion of the program, residents are prepared to enter the private practice of pediatrics in an ambulatory or hospital setting, or to seek additional training in pediatric subspecialties. Approximately two-thirds of recent graduates have chosen primary care and one-third have entered academic fellowships.
