Application Information

We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and adhere to its policies and guidelines.

We will be using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We do not accept paper applications. Applications will be accepted through ERAS until December 15. After a thorough review by the Program Director, e-mail notification will be sent to applicants who will be invited to interview with our program.

Program Requirements

The following is a list of minimum requirements for our program. These few requirements must be met in order for your application to be forwarded to the Program Director for review:

1. You must have graduated from medical school within the past five years.
2. You must score above an 80 on Step 1 and 2 (USMLE) within two tries.
3. You must apply through ERAS.
4. No US clinical experience required.
5. We only sponsor the J-1 VISA (no exceptions).

Program Coordinator

To a resident or fellow, the most important person in a department is the program coordinator. In Pediatrics, Pepper Wedgewood is the central nerve center for the post-graduate training programs. For applicants, she tracks applications, arranges interview schedules, keeps the Selection Committee organized, manages the contract offers and maintains contact after the match.

Her role is even more important once residents and fellows join the department. She coordinates schedules, manages the personnel files for each resident and answers more questions each day than most of us can remember. She is an invaluable resource for applicants, residents, fellows and faculty.

Interview Information

The Pediatric Residency Program provides applicants with one night's lodging at Scott & White's Hilton Garden Inn if needed. Hotel accommodations include only the cost of the room. Additional charges will be the applicant's responsibility. Once you have scheduled your interview, please indicate whether or not you will need hotel accommodations.

When checking into the hotel, ask the desk clerk for your welcome packet. This packet contains general information about Temple and the surrounding area as well as a map of the hospital and a specific interview schedule. If you are not staying at the hotel, your welcome packet can be mailed to your address or you can pick it up upon your arrival. Please let the program coordinator know which you prefer.

We encourage all of our applicants to dress business casual for the interview day/evening. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the program coordinator for more information.

If you have scheduled a daytime interview, please come to the lobby of the main hospital approximately 7:20 a.m. A shuttle van is available from the hotel. One of the residents will meet you at the Hospital Information Desk in the lobby to escort you to Morning Report.

If you have scheduled an evening interview, please come to the pediatric coordinator's office located in the old hospital, room 435 at approximately, 2 p.m.

The day's activities will include a meeting with the department chairman, Dr. Don Wilson, and an interview with the program director, Dr. Jeremy Gibson, as well as other faculty from our institution. In addition to meeting our faculty, your schedule will include a meal (lunch or dinner) with pediatric residents and a tour of the pediatric clinics and The Children's Hospital at Scott & White. The daytime interview will usually end between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. and the evening interview will end at approximately 8 p.m.
