Research
Although not required, research is strongly encouraged. Current active projects include:
- Prognostic Markers in Carcinoma of the Prostate
- Blood Donor Selection
- Breast ductal lavage, correlation with histologic finding
- Calcitonin gene-related peptide in an animal model of hypertension
- Eosinophilia and Endometrial Specimens
- Genetic Markers in Soft Tissue Tumors
- The value of CD-34 staining in patients with monoclonal gammopathies
Experienced senior staff are always available to mentor resident research projects. Additional molecular projects are available at the Central Texas Cardiovascular Institute, located on the nearby VA Medical Center grounds. Many projects are also presented at state and national meetings. Residents are encouraged, whenever appropriate, to submit full manuscripts for publication.
