Pathology Residency Program
A combined anatomic and clinical pathology residency is offered. This residency program satisfies the American Board of Pathology requirements for certification in these specialties and consists of two years of Anatomic Pathology and two years of Clinical Pathology training.
The residents begin by learning the basic principles of each area they rotate through. As each resident gains experience, they are given responsibilities commensurate with their knowledge and skills. Upper level residents are expected to function as junior staff and handle the majority of the work load presented them. All residents, no matter what their level, are under senior staff supervision and receive immediate feedback about their work.
In addition, the performance of each resident is reviewed at least every six months, using defined and established criteria. The evaluation process is designed to meet the areas of competency required by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Areas of strength and weakness are emphasized to apprise the resident of his or her performance.
Each resident has adequate office space in a central, convenient location. This includes a desk, bookshelves and 24-hour internet access. The residents area is currently being renovated, and beginning in 2006 all residents will have their own computer terminals.
