Once a month, a Journal Club is held based on review of various publications. A senior staff physician leads the discussion of articles selected by an assigned resident. Anatomy conference is a resident-run conference which includes lectures and dissections presented in a systematic fashion. Fourth-year residents attend a four-day course in orthopedic pathology. Facilities dedicated to basic science instruction include the Anatomy Laboratory with skeletons and a human cadaver.
Diverse faculty interests cover every aspect of orthopedic surgery, providing a valuable resource available to residents in their training program.
All residents are counseled by the director of the division and the program director at the beginning of each year. Formal evaluation is provided at the end of each rotation by the hospital, is discussed and decided upon in conferences with staff members and consultants. A staff orthopedist either assists at all operative procedures or is readily available in the immediate vicinity. Each resident provides the postoperative care on his own patients and is supervised by a staff member. He then follows his patients during clinic visits.
