Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can my spouse find employment?
  2. Are there any educational opportunities for spouses?
  3. Why should I choose your small town program over an urban program?

Can my spouse find employment?
Yes. There are opportunities for employment in a variety of different areas. Positions are available in manufacturing, education, medical, business and other careers in Temple and Belton, as well as Killeen and Waco.

Are there any educational opportunities for spouses?
There are numerous educational opportunities for spouses in the Central Texas area. These include Temple College, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (in Belton), and the University of Central Texas (in Killeen). Larger four-year colleges in this area are Baylor University in Waco (30 minute drive) and the University of Texas at Austin (1 hour drive).

Why should I choose your small town program over an urban program?
Scott & White is the major medical facility for all of Central Texas. Although it is a private hospital, Scott & White provides services for the indigent population which allows residents to see and treat patients of all socioeconomic groups.

Temple is a community of around 50,000 people in rural Central Texas. There are actually many benefits to enjoy. Temple has few traffic problems, so the average drive to work is about 10 minutes. In general, the city has a very low crime rate and there are many family oriented activities to enjoy.

Finally, for those of you who have an urge to visit or dine in one of Texas' metropolitan areas, Temple is located on one of Texas' largest interstates. Austin, the state capitol, is one hour south. Dallas-Ft. Worth is 2 1/2 hours north. Even San Antonio or Houston are around a 3 hour drive. It is very easy to appreciate the conveniences of a smaller town. The atmosphere here is down to earth and provides a relaxing environment to live and work.
