We strive to create an atmosphere conducive to learning during the three year internal medicine residency program. We feel strongly that residents learn better when they are happy and having a good time and enthusiastic about what they are doing. The residents have excellent faculty support, and the work schedules allow time for outside reading and studying. Reference librarians are readily available to assist with literature search and drug information. Pharmacologists are readily available on the wards to assist with drug information and assistance in drug dosages, etc. Residents have access to up-to-date medical informatics and computer information resources in the hospital, clinic and from home.
Individualized training is also available for residents who need assistance in learning computer technology for information management and the storage and utilization of clinical data. Individual faculty mentoring is provided for research projects and scholarly activities.
It is unique to find a major medical center that is not located in the middle of a large city. It is nice to be able to go from your house to work, or to the library in five to ten minutes, and you can also get to two nice lakes in the beautiful Central Texas countryside in ten minutes. Camping, golfing, fishing and other outdoor activities are readily available twelve months out of the year.
