Welcome from the Associate Program Director

Dr. John David Myers

I attended medical school at Texas A&M University and felt that the field of Internal Medicine encompassed all that I wanted to become as a doctor. I had the opportunity to continue my residency education at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and had some of my best life experiences there. After staying on staff at Mayo a year after residency in Executive Health, my wife and children and I were able to return to Scott & White and be closer to our families.

I have been very fortunate in my career at Scott & White. Initially I was involved with medical student education and was the associate clerkship director for three years prior to my current position as associate program director. I have always known I wanted to be involved in education, and Scott & White has facilitated that for me. It is a true honor to be involved with teaching residents and students.

I am in charge of the outpatient side of our program and head up the continuity clinics for our residents. My goal is to make the clinic as rewarding as possible for both the residents and patients. The resident is identified as the primary care provider and has the ultimate decision regarding appropriate care for the patient. In addition, we are researching practice guidelines and screening guidelines that will provide the resident with objective measures to assess their quality of care. You will have access to faculty that are true leaders in their field and will see impressive diversity in disease processes.

It is also my privilege to work with dynamic leaders in our institution such as our Program Director, Dr. Steve Sibbitt, and our other Associate Program Director, Dr. David Rice. With this team in place, I see great things for our residency. The combination of Texas A&M University and Scott & White provides residents with vast resources to enable them to accomplish anything in the field of medicine. From the faculty, to the state of the art in electronic medicine, to the facilities themselves, I think you will be quite pleased with what our Program can offer you.
