Family Medicine Clinics
Residents are assigned to one of three clinics where they will establish their clinic practice to allow for continuity of care during the three years of training. One of the clinics is located in Belton, one in Killeen, and the other approximately five blocks away from the main facility in Temple at the Santa Fe Clinic. All three sites are model group practices intimately involved with managed care and education.
All are freestanding clinics with complete outpatient laboratory and x-ray facilities, conference rooms, libraries, integrated computer systems and at least two exam rooms per resident physician. They each have a full compliment of support staff including seven physicians at the Belton Clinic, 14 physicians at the Killeen Clinic, and six physicians at the Santa Fe Clinic. Residents are divided between the three Family Medicine Clinics; six at Belton, six at Killeen and six at Santa Fe.
One of the most appreciated aspects of the Scott & White system is the fully integrated Electronic Medical Record. Through this system all of the patient’s data is instantly on hand when needed. Since each note is dictated, the chart is completely searchable for key words, and an up to date synopsis is always available. Ancillary studies such as echocardiograms, EKGs, labs, and pulmonary function tests are always available even if they were performed at another Scott & White clinic; and some tests such as radiology have become completely digital.
