Welcome to our site. This page gives me the opportunity to introduce you to one of the most special emergency medicine residencies in the country. Since 1992, we have trained many fine emergency physicians who continue to practice in all areas of the country.

We see a large number of patients with a wide variety of complaints in our emergency department. Scott & White has been known as a center of diagnostic and clinical excellence for many years. That reputation draws a large number of difficult and complex cases to our emergency department from the entire region.

Scott & White is also the only level 1 trauma center in the region. We see approximately 73,000 patients per year in our department. Our acuity level is higher than average, with a large percentage of our patients requiring ICU admission. We have an integrated emergency department, with pediatric, surgical and medical cases seen in all areas of the Emergency Department. Approximately one-fourth of our patients fit the pediatric age group. We have a diverse faculty group in experience and training. Because of this diversity, we recognize that there truly is no one "Scott & White way" to approach clinical problems.

We encourage a feeling of collegiality between our faculty and residents. This extends not only to our residents, but their families as well. To foster these relationships, we meet socially on a regular basis throughout the year. From our summer lake gatherings to the fall Oktoberfest and Superbowl parties, we look for opportunities to enjoy our time away from the hospital. The faculty and residents enjoy a wide variety of extracurricular activities. Hiking and biking trails are readily available around several local lakes and the city of Austin is close by for many cultural activities. We take part in intramural sports and organize quarterly physician wellness conferences, emphasizing the importance of remaining well-rounded in life.
