History

The first six emergency medicine residents arrived at Scott & White in July of 1992. At that time, the department consisted of 15 rooms and boasted an annual census of about 35,000. Ten full-time board certified emergency medicine physicians comprised the original teaching staff.

Since that time, we have graduated 93 residents and currently have 31 residents in various stages of training. To keep pace with an increase in our patient volumes, our department has grown to 47 beds serving approximately 73,200 patients a year. The teaching staff has increased to 17 emergency medicine physicians.

We are proud of the continuity among our senior staff. A majority of the staff have been here since the beginning of the residency program.

The Scott & White Emergency Medicine Residency is fully accredited by the ACGME Residency Review Committee.
