Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship
We are proud to announce a new, one-year fellowship in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology available to those residents completing residency in anesthesiology. The fellowship is designed to meet all criteria as required by the ACGME, and will soon be in the accreditation process.
The fellow will complete roughly two months of cases working with CT faculty and will then spend the remainder of the fellowship supervising residents under the close direction of the faculty. This will provide hands-on experience providing direct patient care as well as training in supervision and teaching.
Lectures will be weekly within the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and will be supplemented by lectures with cardiologists, surgeons and general anesthesiologists.
The fellow will be well-prepared to sit for the written perioperative echocardiography exam by the conclusion of the fellowship and will be expected to become board-certified as a result.
In addition to clinical care rotations, the fellow will have one month of ICU care, one month of dedicated research time and two weeks of perfusion technology.
Electives involving cardiology, pulmonology, critical care, echocardiography and research are also available. Other rotations may be created to suit the individual needs of the fellow.
3DTEE screen
Scott & White Hospital offers a wide range of cardiothoracic surgical services with dedicated thoracic, cardiac and vascular surgeons. The Division is also the first academic anesthesiology division in the state to use real-time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (3DTEE) in the operating rooms. This is an active area of research and serves as an excellent teaching tool for those learning sonography, in addition to providing improved clinical care.
The Division currently consists of six faculty anesthesiologists: Drs. Anderson, Ciceri, Culp, Gloyna, Johnston and Villamaria.
