- Hospital School Program. The Temple Independent School District provides a full-time teacher for chronically ill patients treated at Scott & White. To qualify, students must be enrolled in school, be between the ages of three and 21, and expected to miss 20 or more days during the school year. Students work on their assignments from home. Although the school program is designed for chronically ill students, all pediatric school-aged children are welcome to attend. The program not only helps students keep up with their schoolwork, but aids in preserving the normal routines which are critical to recovery.
- Community/School Education Services. These services are provided through presentations on various topics such as child development, child life, camps and retreats. Child Life also participates in local health fairs and career fairs on topics such as "going to the doctor" and "stress management." In addition, Child Life collaborates with local school districts to provide students with hands-on experiences in the medical field, through a program called Camp Med.
- School Re-Entry Programs. These programs help patients and classmates adjust to a child's return to school. This program is provided for children who have been away for a long time, or for children who return to school with any physical changes or changes in what they can do.
- Parent and/or Patient Support. These services are provided through Parents' Night Out and Support Group participation.
- Parent Education. Parental education is available on issues such as relaxation, play for the child with changed mobility, development, reactions to hospitalization or healthcare, and many other issues surrounding care for a chronically ill child.
