Robot-Assisted Prostate Surgery

Minimally invasive surgery reduces pain, speeds recovery

Robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy is a technique to remove the entire prostate gland and seminal vesicles as a treatment for prostate cancer.

Major benefits include:

  • Less pain and blood loss
  • Less scarring, due to tiny incisions
  • Shorter recovery time and hospital stay
  • Quicker return to daily activities

What to expect:

Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer found in men in the United States. As many as one in six American men will be diagnosed with the disease during their lifetime. A unique treatment option available at Scott & White utilizes state-of-the-art technology to get patients back on their feet sooner and with less pain.

Less-invasive alternative to radical prostatectomy

If your urologist recommends radical surgery to treat your prostate cancer, you may be a candidate for a new, less invasive surgery. Robot-assisted (da Vinci) Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy uses cutting-edge technology to achieve cancer control with fewer side effects. In the past few years, this procedure has quickly become the fastest growing treatment for prostate cancer.

The da Vinci® Surgical System uses robotic technology to translate surgeons' hand movements into precise maneuvers using small instruments inserted through five tiny "dot" incisions instead of one large incision. This revolutionary technology also provides the surgeon with a magnified "inside the body" view using a 3D video console to display the telescopic image.

Scott & White's experienced team of surgeons

Our team has had extensive training and has developed a clinical pathway designed to provide the highest quality care throughout your brief hospital stay.

Kristofer Wagner, M.D. and Patrick Lowry, M.D.  are urologists with fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery and they both have specific training and experience in robot-assisted surgery. They perform the procedure together and you will meet one of them during your pre-op evaluation.
