About Dr. Shull

Scott & White physician builds international reputation

Thirty years ago, he came to a small Texas town as a young physician ready to make his mark in the field of medicine. Now he is an internationally known clinician and researcher who has had a dramatic impact on women’s health. While the quiet, soft-spoken demeanor of Bob Shull, M.D., may hide his international reputation, it does not conceal his genuine concern and interest in changing the lives of the women who come through his doors.

A native of North Carolina, Dr. Shull attended Duke University before receiving his medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. After medical school, he completed an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

A Worldwide Reputation for Pelvic Reconstruction

Throughout his years as a clinician and researcher at Scott & White, Dr. Shull has earned a worldwide reputation as an expert in pelvic reconstruction. Each year, he and his team hold two seminars in Salado focusing on the latest information in this field. This spring’s seminar drew physicians from Norway, Sweden and Italy, as well as from around the nation.

“The seminar held this spring was a perfect opportunity for me to review new information in pelvic medicine,” said Peter Ross, Jr., M.D., a physician from Louisville, Kentucky. “I was interested in the seminar because of the material being presented, and it was everything I needed to see.”

International Leader in Pelvic Medicine

Dr. Shull has had physicians from around the world come to train with him and his team; currently he has an obstetrician/gynecologist from Italy, who will be with the team for one year. In the past he has hosted physicians from Norway, London, Singapore, Denmark, Japan, Ireland and South Africa. Dr. Shull and his wife, Jennie, often open up their home to give the visitors a place to stay, and the couple tries to give them a good taste of life in Texas. Dr. Shull enjoys the opportunity to teach and to learn from other physicians, both those from abroad and those from this country.

“It’s exciting to be able to show people what we are doing. We have such extensive experience in not only our clinical and surgical practices, but research as well; it’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to share that with others. And it’s also educational to learn what challenges other physicians face and what their solutions are.”

A father of three and grandfather of seven, Dr. Shull has made Central Texas his home for 30 years, but he has taken his expertise and knowledge around the world and back again.
