Tem-Bel Health & Wellness Coalition
The Tem-Bel Health & Wellness Coalition is a group of Central Texas community leaders committed to developing comprehensive school-based healthcare and a health education initiative to promote children's health. The coalition comprises of members from Scott & White, Belton Independent School District, Temple Independent School District, Texas Department of Health, The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and other community agencies.
The Tem-Bel Health & Wellness Coalition was formed as an ad hoc group by Dr. Charles Foulks, Director, Division of Nephrology-Hypertension at Scott & White. In the spring of 2003, he invited various leaders from the community, Parks and Leisure Department of Temple, Temple and Belton Independent School Districts, health professionals from Scott & White, Bell County Health Department, and the Blacklands Research Center to attend a planning meeting to address the growing problem of childhood obesity and the health risks of obesity. This approach was taken because of the firm belief that this disorder is a community problem and should be addressed in an effort that is community-based. His office supported the development of the Coalition and still provides administrative support and guidance for the Coalition.
Our Mission Statement
To promote the health and well being of people across the lifespan through a cooperative effort of local healthcare professionals, educators, researchers, and the community.
Grants and Research
Various Coalition partners have submitted grant applications and have participated in research related to childhood obesity and its related issues.
