Temple Campus

Purpose of the Program

A collaboration between the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center – School of Rural Public Health (SRPH) faculty and College of Medicine (COM) clinical faculty at Scott & White has resulted in the formation of a Health Services Research (HSR) program on the Temple campus. The intent of this initiative is to work collaboratively in generating research of national importance that addresses issues of cost, quality or access in the delivery of health services. The HSR program, with offices located in the Clinical Research Programs Office (57th Street Annex), will provide an environment that will encourage the development of collaborative research efforts drawing on diverse skill sets of College Station and Temple faculty.

Proposals for Research Projects

Three years of funding have been secured to support the initial phase of program development for this collaborative effort. Prospective researchers should be engaged in the development of collaborative pilot studies that will yield results supporting future major grant applications. On a competitive basis, the proposals for pilot studies will receive support from the HSR program funds and should involve investigators from both the College Station and Temple collaborative sites. Program Structure

Dr. Charles Phillips, a professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management and the Director of the Health Services Research Program in the SRPH serves as the Program Director on the Temple campus. An HSR Advisory Group, chaired by Dr. Phillips, provides direction and facilitate potential research collaboration between faculty of the SRPH and COM faculty on the Temple campus. An HSR Operations Group, a small subgroup of the HSR Advisory Group led by the Program Director, reviews proposals and makes funding decisions.
