Research Feasibility
If you have a research idea, a synopsis or a fully written protocol, and you are a Scott & White investigator or member of a research team, you must contact an analyst in the Division of Clinical Research to access patient populations for the project plan. Adequate patient populations can determine the success or failure of a clinical research project. Because this aspect of research is so critical, the Division of Clinical Research employs a full-time analyst, Ricky O’Banon, to address patient populations in all clinical research projects conducted at Scott & White. No project will receive approval from the IRC or IRB unless feasibility is performed prior to submission.

Potential Research Subject Lists
If you have an IRB-approved research project and are having difficulty recruiting an adequate patient population to meet your enrollment goals, Ricky may be able to assist you. He can create a potential subject list that, through the proper steps, will allow you to contact the patients either by direct communication or by patient letters signed by a primary care physician.

Data Application Tools
Ricky utilizes two systems at Scott & White to help deliver these research services:

• MIDAS - Medical Information Data Analysis System that contains SMS, Signature, Invision and EAD information. This system allows for data extraction in a variety of ways, from diseases to procedures as well as demographic-type data.
• CPA - Clinical Practice Analysis system that contains all electronic medical records at Scott & White. The tool allows for aggregate searches to be performed on multiple patients at one time. Any data in the electronic record that is indexed (marked-up) can be searched. This tool is very helpful when searching for drugs, test scores or lab values, among other dictated items.
