Q&A with Dr. Karen Patterson

I take a personal interest in each patient. Every patient has an interesting life. I try to give my patients time.

Why did you decide to become an Ob/Gyn?

Unique variety of patients of all ages and types. It was a good opportunity to blend surgery, procedures and primary care. I liked the rapid pace, high volume, yet chance for long-term relationship with patients.

What inspires you about your work as an Ob/Gyn?

I feel privileged every day to have a job that still gratifies me after more than 20 years! Though the days are often full and hours are long, I know I make a difference in the lives of my patients.

What are some of the most important things you feel a patient needs above and beyond standard care?

I take a personal interest in each patient. Every patient has an interesting life. I try to give my patients time.

Why do you feel it is important to build relationships with your patients and give personalized care?

I treat patients the way I would want my family and myself to be treated. We are all consumers of the healthcare system. Patients have busy lives and their time is just as valuable as mine. I want patients to have a sense of partnership in their care. I encourage them to take responsibility and be accountable.

What led you to practice at Scott & White?  What benefits do you feel you can offer patients at Scott & White that would not be available in other practice settings?

Growing up in Waco, Scott & White has always been known for high-quality, state-of-the-art medical care. Scott & White is a very successful model in the business of healthcare and can meet any possible need my patients may have right here in Central Texas!
