Holiday Gala Opens New Hospital

After years of planning and anticipation, Scott & White opened the doors to its newest centerpiece—the 430,000-square-foot main hospital—on the first weekend of December with a spectacular blacktie gala.

More than 1,100 guests and benefactors from throughout the country came to celebrate this new eight-story technology masterpiece which also will house The Children’s Hospital at Scott & White, a very colorful and exciting extension to Scott & White’s overall care strategy.

The Hard Hat Gala proved to be a festive occasion as Scott & White staff and friends toured the new hallways, exam rooms, patient rooms and more alongside those individuals who made this dream a reality with their personal investment in the care that will be offered in the new facility.

Scheduled to officially start welcoming patients in mid-January 2007, the new hospital  also will house the Emergency Department, as well as facilities for intensive care, neonatal care, cardiac care and labor and delivery.

“This is the largest project in the history of Scott & White,” remarked Scott & White President and CEO Dr. Alfred B. Knight. “It’s a gigantic initiative on our part in the way we provide care.”

With approximately 419 patient beds, the new hospital  is not only the new focus of the city physically, but it is the medical focal point for the campus as well. “Our goal is to be the best healthcare facility in the nation,” Dr. Knight said, “and this hospital is a stepping stone to that.”
