Personalized Primary Care

Scott & White general pediatricians provide medical excellence for every stage of childhood, from infancy through adolescence. The Section of General Pediatrics is comprised of 13 pediatricians who specialize in outpatient medical care for children. At Scott & White, the general pediatrics staff does more than provide exceptional care—they build relationships. Each time you come to Scott & White for one of your scheduled visits, you’ll see the same practitioner and healthcare team, building a caring relationship that spans the childhood years.

Services

Your general pediatric care includes services such as well-child care, development assessment, immunizations and acute illness care. And if a more complex, special medical problem arises, your general pediatrician works closely with Scott & White experts in all specialties and sub-specialties. Your child's primary pediatrician serves as the primary care hub, assessing the child's health and making referrals to expert secondary care specialists as appropriate. General pediatric care includes the following services:

  • Well-child checkups (View checkup schedule PDF document)
  • Immunizations (View immunization Schedule PDF document)
  • Acute care
    • Your general pediatrician treats acute health conditions that require immediate medical attention. General pediatricians serve as the primary point of care for such ailments as ear aches, high fevers, common infections, asthma, attention deficit disorders, and other common childhood conditions.
  • Development assessments
    • Development assessments assess whether a child is experiencing normal growth and development for the child’s age group. Abnormal development can alert parent and physicians to possible health concerns and may indicate the need for more detailed medical examinations.
  • Behavioral problems
    • Behavioral problems or sudden changes in behavior can signal an underlying health condition. The general pediatrician conducts physical examinations to determine whether a physical ailment might be the source of the behavioral problems. If no physical health condition is found, the child may be referred to a Scott & White behavioral specialist in Child Mental Health Services.
  • Maintain children's health records

Techologically Integrated Facilities

You can find the same high quality medical attention at Scott & White regional clinics in Waco, College Station and Killeen. These locations host regular subspecialty pediatric clinics in diabetes, cardiology, child development and other areas, bringing advanced specialty care to the children of surrounding communities. And with each regional clinic electronically integrated into the main Temple campus, primary care pediatricians can call on the multi-specialty team on the main campus to view the same images, charts and information that the primary care physician sees when caring for your child.

Flexibility in Scheduling
