Outpatient Services

The outpatient child life specialist works directly with the subspecialty teams located on the fourth floor of the clinic. This includes pulmonology, neurology, hematology, oncology, gastroenterology, nephrology and cardiology. The outpatient child life specialist provides services Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Services include:

• Providing emotional support surrounding diagnosis and/or treatment
• Providing psychological preparation for procedures
• Providing relaxation and stress management, such as distraction and imagery during procedures, while educating parents and encouraging them to continue these techniques
• Providing emotional support for parents and siblings
• Providing school re-entry programs as requested for children returning to school after diagnosis
• Providing grief and bereavement support
• Providing opportunities for play to enhance and support normal growth and development
