Inside the Blood Mobile

Tranum and Extraco donated a blood mobile in 2007 to go into the community to help provide an adequate inventory of blood for the patients being treated at Scott & White.

The 40-foot mobile contains three interview rooms, five faux leather donor chairs, a refreshment center, a DVD player and a 20-inch widescreen plasma television

The goal of mobile drives is to provide an easy, convenient means for members of outlying communities, businesses, church members and civic organizations to donate blood.

Blood drives should be scheduled with the Scott & White Blood Center far enough in advance to allow for suffcient planning and promotion of the blood drive. Blood drives can be scheduled for a variety of times, depending on the needs and number of prospective donors.

If you are interested in organizing a mobile blood drive, view the list below and get in contact with the Blood Center.

Planning

For best results, a contact person should be designated to work with the Blood Center in planning your blood drive. The Scott & White Blood Center will be happy to assist you in recruiting donors, advertising the drive, providing posters, sign-up sheets or other resource material. Please review Hosting A Blood Drive for additional information.

Blood Donor Recruitment Techniques

Here are some ideas for recruiting blood donors as well as tips for signing up donors:

Talk to each potential donor face-to-face
Personal contact is the only way to be sure that potential donors realize how important their donations are and how many people they may be helping.

Be enthusiastic--its contagious
Your commitment will become their commitment.

Be confident
You are asking people to do something that will help others and make them feel good about themselves.

Be prepared
Know the day, date and time of your blood drive; have enough brochures on hand as well as the sign-up sheet in order to have the donor commit to a specific time.

Incorporate the entire community
Place posters or fliers in busy retail locations.

Use an opening phrase
"We are sponsoring a blood drive in two weeks. If you give just one half hour of your time to donate blood, you will be helping as many as three people who are fighting for their health and their lives. When would it be most convenient for you?"
