Flow cytometry is a powerful technology for characterizing and analyzing particles (usually cells) when they pass through the laser beam on a single cell suspension manner. A flow cytometer can tell a cell’s relative size and internal granularity by light scatters and measure its fluorescence intensity and time.

The advantages of Flow Cytometry are:

  • It simultaneously measures and analyzes multiple physical characteristic of a single cell.
  • Millions of cells can be analyzed in a relatively short time.
  • Acquisition data can be displayed and re-analyzed in different ways.
  • Cell sorting can isolate select cell population for further analysis.

The disadvantages of Flow Cytometry are:

  • Only cell suspension solutions are suitable for flow cytometry analysis.
  • Cells from solid tissues have to be disaggregated.
