Designs of Hope Timeline

  • 1986: A pediatric patient's relative had an idea: sell Christmas corsages as a fundraiser to meet the special needs of pediatric patients and their families. Thus, the Children's Holiday Project was born.
    • 1986: Dr. Lawrence Frankel, a pediatric hematologist/oncologist, joins Scott & White
    • October 1986: Dr. Frankel treats his first patient: a girl from Hewitt, Texas with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She is now an elementary school teacher in Plano, Texas.
  • 1987: Scott & White becomes a member institution of the Pediatric Oncology Group (now the Children's Oncology Group), giving patients access to cutting-edge chemotherapy trials.
  • 1988: Children's Miracle Network provides a $600 grant to purchase machinery to produce pins and magnets using artwork drawn by pediatric patients.
  • 1990: First greeting card is produced and sold.
  • 2001: Children's Holiday Project is renamed to Designs of Hope, A Children's Project. The name reflects the sentiment found in every child's drawing that paints a picture of hope.
