A four-story Surgical Sciences Building will be added to Scott & White Memorial Hospital, providing 18 new operating rooms featuring state-of-the-art surgical technology.

The expansion project contains pre-operative and post-operative recovery rooms, and space for adding 18 more operating rooms in the future.

New operating rooms will feature large, wall-mounted and smaller, movable flat-panel view screens to assist surgeons viewing X-rays and pictures from medical imaging systems. The rooms will also accommodate surgical robot systems, support advanced minimally invasive surgery technology, use efficient lighting systems, and room for equipment and support services.

The building plan includes:

• 18 operating rooms (with room for 18 more in the future)
• pre/post-operative rooms
• new central processing department
• new central plant
• new pre-surgical evaluation unit
• bistro kitchen for patients, family and staff
• sheltered ambulance drop off
