Patient Care Emphasis
- Dr. Miltenburg operates on over 300 patients with breast cancer every year and is recognized as an expert in breast cancer care.
- As leader of the multidisciplinary breast cancer team at Scott & White, she chairs the weekly breast cancer team meeting where each new patient is discussed and a treatment plan is formulated.
- MammoSite© brachytherapy is a relatively new technique for delivering radiation to the breast following lumpectomy. It involves placement of a balloon catheter into the breast and sending radiation through the catheter where it is dispersed to the surrounding tissue. It shortens the radiation treatment time from 6 weeks to 5 days. Dr. Miltenburg and Dr. Boyle (radiation oncology) have been using MammoSite© brachytherapy since 2004 and have one of the largest experiences in Texas.
- For women with spontaneous nipple discharge, Dr. Miltenburg can place a ductoscope into the nipple and visualize the entire milk duct system to identify the source of nipple discharge. It is well known that most breast cancers start in cells that line the milk ducts.
