Scott & White University Medical Campus to launch Healing Garden Campaign

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Scott & White’s University Medical Campus (UMC) will host a reception to launch its Healing Garden Campaign on Thursday, April 10 from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Tom and Carlie Burdett, committee chairs for the UMC Healing Garden Campaign, will host the reception in the Second Level Atrium of the UMC, 300 University Blvd. in Round Rock. Pat Byrum, UMC director of development, will kick off the reception by unveiling the proposed plans for the Healing Garden.

“The Healing Garden gives us the opportunity to use our environment to enrich our patients’ experience,” said Dr. Richard Schultz, chief of staff for Scott & White’s University Medical Campus Hospital. “It provides a therapeutic setting that benefits everyone, including our patients, families and staff.”

Recent case studies* indicate that people exposed to natural, garden-like settings experience reduced stress, improved physical and emotional well being, better pain control, and improved immune functioning. After spending time in a healing garden, many individuals left a medical appointment or returned to work in the hospital feeling refreshed, content and less stressed.
